Humphrey was named executor in the will of his uncle, Edmund. It is
believed he returned to England to settle the estate, probably before
Aug1633, when he received a grant of 4 acres at Dorchester,Ma. Edmund
Pinney left a considerable estate and named Humphrey as his chief
beneficiary, calling him "son", which has led to some confusion about
his actual relationship. Humphrey was made freeman 14May1634 and on
04Jan1635 he was granted 20 acres of land between Dorchester & Roxbury.
He later received 10 ares of meadow land beyond Neponset River. He was
an original settler at Windsor, his early residence being on the west
side of the Main street, about 1 mile north of the present Congretional
Church. In 1675, Humphrey, along with Thomas Ford, George Hull, and
Thomas Lewis, purchased land from the indians for the inhabitants of
Windsor.
